You need more clean headroom?  The new Tung-Sol 7581A vacuum tube is the answer.  This tube is an upgraded 6L6GC tube but willprovide more headroom than typical 6L6GC tubes. The 7581-A power tube has a plate dissipation rating of 35W, as opposed to the 6L6GC and 7581 rating of 30W.  The 7581A tube can be used in any 6L6 based tube circuit.

From our review: "Balanced, is the first word that comes to mind when I think about the sound. Other descriptive words would include detailed, rich and responsive. The bass response, midrange and treble were very balanced and the EQ could essentially be left flat.Very rich sounding with enough shimmer and harmonics to put a smile on my face."

A fantastic choice for your Fender tube amp, Ampeg amps normally using 7027A tubes, Music Man amps, or any other 6L6 based tube amp where you need to increase headroom.

Good sound, but didn't last.

by -

I put a pair of these into a HR DeVille 212 6 months ago. Sounded great, but they're starting go already (losing bottom end). Bias was a little hot (~74mV), but I would have expected them to handle that. 8-10 hrs playing per week, at volume 3-4 isn't that much. Maybe I got a couple of duds?

Get these now!

If you have an amp that can use these tubes or a 6L6, get these tubes. Now. I have been using these in a pair of Quicksilver Mid Mono amps for about a week now and I still cannot believe what I am hearing. I was using the TungSol KT66 tubes which I thought were kick-ass but the 7581A buries those, and the KT66 is an excellent tube. I am buried in wall to wall sound, the bass is TIGHT, and the mids are the type that reach out and grab you by the heart, and the highs bring tears to your eyes in a good way. What a marvelous tube this is! I only get 40wpc from the mid-mono amps but what a glorious 40 watts this is! This is a true home run for the TungSol brand, and I also will add that these tubes crushed my NOS Sylvania 6L6 GC tubes!

Very musical 6L6

by

Very musical tube, easily on par with nos or vintage tubes. The sound is big, bold, clear, warm, and rich. Very detailed but never sterile. My main amp is a THD Bivalve 30 watt and is self-biasing - this amp is a tube-lovers dream - class A with 2 power and 2 preamp tubes. Amp will take any power tube without need for biasing. I have 2 nos Mullard short plate 12ax7s and these 2 Tung Sol 7581A in the amp now. I never change the preamp tubes as they are perfect. The 7581As are deep, big, bold and punchy with better headroom and cleaner sounding than every tube I've tried, but with that essential sound we hear in our heads about what a tube amp should sound like - think preferred series 6L6s or winged Cs but with more extension in the highs and lows, the mids are haunting but not overly pronounced; they sound very full and bell-like but with great control. These would be ideal for the guitar player who wants a clean platform for pedals.

4 For tone 2 for reliability

Sounded fine when they worked, I purchased these along with a number of other tubes on Nov 24th 2017, over the past few months I noticed that they would take a long time to warm up. Eventually they started to make noise, i put back an old set of 6L6 GT's I had sitting around and the noise was gone and the amp warmed up and sound better much quicker.

My overall experience with reliability is something that you can expect in tubes, however I would also add that I have never had a power tube go in this particular amp. (Redplate CDS2). Now I do play a lot my amp can be on for 2 to 3 hours at a time, I would just prefer better reliability.

From a tonal perspective, I found these tubes were fine, they had a frequency response that seemed to work with my amp, but in my opinion, they were nothing that would motivate me to purchase again considering the short life...again all my own experience your mileage may vary

More headroom. Great tone.

I used these (along with 5751 preamp tubes) to convert a 100w guitar head into a bass amp. The increased headroom has helped tremendously. Fantastic tone.
