The new 6V6-S vacuum tube from JJ is rock solid and sounds great. Like the EH 6V6, it can withstand higher plate voltages making it a great choice in many tube amps.

They do clean with smooth clear high end. On the other end of the spectrum big fat bass notes that are well defined having a piano like quality are produced. Crank up the gain and you will get everything from a nice crunch to all out screaming distortion. And not just mush, but a very controllable, musical distortion. A well tuned amp running the JJ 6V6-S power tubes and getting a good strong signal from your guitar may make you want to cash in your old TS808. One rig that was used as a tester consisted of a 66 Deluxe Reverb fitted with a Celestion Vintage 30. The JJ's were put in with a plate voltage of 440 volts and biased at about 80% of their rated output. This would kill many 6V6 tubes (and had in the past). A current production Les Paul Standard was plugged in and the resulting sound could only be described as "crazy". Just about any genre of music from blues, jazz to classic rock was obtained. If you are a guitar picker with a love for tone you owe it to yourself to try a set of these outstanding tubes. Check out our review of this 6V6 tube.

Best 6V6 valve overall!!!

by

Tried a couple of power valves in my Fender 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue the few last weeks. I used Electro Harmonix 6V6GT, TAD 6V6GT-STR and N.O.S JAN Phillips 6V6GT. The E.H. are very "flat", but TAD and Phillips are very good sounding valves which slightly different tone characters.

The JJ's 6V6S are absolutely the best so far! I must say they're truly not sounding like a classic 6V6 tube – rather 6L6-alike!
I run them at 435 V (plate) with 19 mA draw which sounds awesome! The JJ's are very clear and loud, with a great touch sensitivity and that "melting glass" on every note.

I'd buy them again for sure!!! There is no need to try out other tubes, but I will do eventually...

My Review

I grabbed a pair of the JJ 6V6's last time I was in, just to see what I
could do with them.

That's a pretty neat tube! Yes, they don't look exactly like a classic
6V6 tube but they work where a 6V6 should go. What I found really interesting
was that they were happy in an old Bassman that was in for service. 420
volts didn't trouble them.

So then I went nuts and re-wired an old Bogen CHB 35 amp to take them.
The old tubes and sockets were shot anyway. They worked great in that
amp after re-building the bias circuit to give roughly double the
original bias. The plates on those JJ's look a lot like the plates in
7868's or 7591's and once it was biased right, the amp didn't know the
difference. It gave full rated power.

So yeah... I'd recommend the JJ's!
