Preferred Series 5AR4 | This is my pick for the best modern GZ34 being made at this time!
by Seth
Best modern production GZ34 being made at this time, and The Tube Store, stands behind these, which is nice. I doubt it is a coincidence that The Tube Store selected the same GZ34 that I did. Those rehashed resurrected old brand name GZ34s are glorified Sovteks, with scalloped plates. The plates have the usual slight mismatch due to the way the tubes are wired internally, and it is consistent with good NOS GZ34s, or NOS Sylvania, or GE 5AR4s, Japanese Matsushitas, Mullard, Philips, Telefunken, etc. FYI, Genalex never made a GZ34. Nyquist noise is low, along with induced hum. These also last the longest of the modern GZ34s I have tried, barring NOS. Testers in use, regulated Triplett 3444 & 3444A, Hickock 15750L1, 752 & 752 A, Tektronix 576 curve tracer, with regulated screen & heater supplies, and a Tektronix 371B for transmitter tubes.
finally!!!

I've been driving this Preferred Series 5AR4 in an Allen Accomplice (Deluxe Reverb) for almost 12 months so far, and it's held up great. Voltages haven't drifted by more than 0.8 volts in that time, which is a very good sign. It still looks new even after around 500 hours of use. I'm very confident in this tube. Well done, Tube Store!
