This new production 12AX7 / ECC83 preamp tube is New Sensor's reissue of the famous Mullard 12AX7.

From our review: "Microphonics is not an issue despite the larger that average plate structure. The transconductance on my sample was the same as two NOS samples I measured. Not really high gain at all, but a real good noise floor and a nice smooth tone that doesn’t encourage ear fatigue the way some preamps can be."

The Mullard name and trademark have been acquired by the New Sensor Corporation. This new production Mullard 12AX7 vacuum tube is manufactured at their Xpo-Pul factory (also known as Reflektor) in Saratov, Russia. New Sensor is an American corporation and since taking ownership of this factory has been steadily improving the quality of current production tubes.

One other note about the construction of these tubes is they have filaments that are almost completely encased in the plate structure. They often don't "light up" when working properly. This is not a problem, it's normal for the reissue Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83.

Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83 | Mullards all the way for Matchless Chieftain

by

I originally bought the Mullard MU-12AX7 for a mic preamp but I tried them in my Matchless Chieftain, replacing a JJ (position 1) and a Chinese (original from Matchless) in position 2. The amp needed the gain dialed up a bit with the Mullards but then there it was- the huge 3D sound I remembered from when I purchased the amp in 1997. I tried a pair of the new Tung Sols as a pair and in every combination (along with the JJ and Mullards) and they are over bright, over-loud and just plain ratty sounding I. The Matchless. Single notes on higher strings especially suffered. I’m sticking with the reissue Mullards

Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83 | Great brightness enhancer

by

This MU-12AX7 tube sounded bright and harsh in the V2 in my '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue, because it already has a bright cap. In V1 it sounded very well balanced, since the normal channel has alot more lower mids, roundness and naturally less treble, so it's bright characteristics helped.

Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83 | Good but not many dynamics.

by

I was very disappointed with this MU-12AX7 tube. I got four of them. I found them noisy and weak sounding in my Bogner and Splawn amps. I went with the preferred series and Nothern electrics. Those tubes are impressive and really brought my amps to life. One of the Northern Electric tubes was outstanding. And is always in V1 of whatever amp I am playing. The Mullards were built well and reliable. My buddy loves them in his Fender and Vintage Marshall, just not my flavor.

Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83 | Mullard sweetness

by

I have had my Lonestar special for many years and never had to change my preamp tubes (Mesa) until they start to be microphonic. I choose Mullard MU-12AX7 because of their "flat "tone balance and I am very pleased with the results. I am a blues-rock player and the sweetness of the highs are amazingly smooth with my vintage 30s 2X2 cab. A awesome upgrade for me.
