The Tung-Sol name and trademark have been acquired by the New Sensor Corporation. This new production Tungsol tube is manufactured at their Xpo-Pul factory (also known as Reflektor) in Saratov, Russia. New Sensor is an American corporation and since taking ownership of this factory has been steadily improving the quality of current production tubes.

Special note for 5751 preamp tube types: The 5751 vacuum tube is not a true 12AX7, but is often used in place of a 12AX7. They only have 70% of the gain of a 12AX7, and are often used to quiet down guitar amps that have too much gain. You can learn more about this on our tone tweak info page.

Nice sounding 12AX7 substitute for reduced gain

by

I tried this tube in the V1 socket of a Hot Rod Deluxe Mk IV. The slightly reduced gain improved the volume control range and overall sound of the amp. I will warn you, though, that since it has fairly long plates, it will probably be more microphonic than a short plate tube. I used the factory supplied tube damper but still heard more feedback in the "more drive" mode (with the volume turned up loud) vs the factory installed ECC83, despite the lower gain.
