JJ 5Y3S | Good rectifier

by

I've used this JJ-5Y3 rectifier interchangeably with the Sovtek 5AR4 (which has a slightly smaller bottle) for several years, and the B+ comes out nearly the same in either case. The JJ 5Y3 has been running in several of my amps (custom builds and vintage restorations) for several years now, and I have never seen or gotten a complaint of one failing. (To the reviewer, eb, who comments on the filament voltage being 5A vs. 6.3V: 5A is the common filament voltage for rectifiers; standard preamp and power tubes use 6.3V. That's why power transformers come with windings for both voltages).

Nice in 5E3

Just replaced an old RCA 5Y3 with this tube in a Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 amp. Sounds and feels very authentic. Solid.

Good Rectifier Tube

by

Used this tube in a 6L6 SE design and has been a good solid rectifier tube. I find the output of the tubes to average about 67% of the input. Only downfall is that they are designed for a 5V filament whereas 6.3 is a more common on power transformers.
