Our Preferred Series 7189 vacuum tube is a versatile high quality option for EL84, 6BQ5, and 7189 power tube circuits because of its clean headroom, power, dynamics and harmonic content. Please see John Templeton's review of this tube. This 7189 tube is rated for higher power and plate voltage plus longer life making it a premium upgrade for amps with tough operating conditions. The solid construction and heavy glass also minimize microphonics. For the hifi crowd, this tube is the perfect choice for Scott, Eico and Fisher amps. Our Preferred Series 7189 starts life as a NOS (New Old Stock) Russian 6P14P-EV as translated from Cyrillic. It is a military build that meets or exceeds the 7189 specifications

6P14P = 6BQ5, EL84 and 7189 tubes.
E = Extended or long life (>5,000 hours)
V = Mechanically ruggedized for low microphonics and reliability

We have been selling this particular tube for years but have found the production from the 1980’s to sound and work the best. We sought out and purchased as much NOS as we can find from this time period. They are then burned in, tested and matched on our digital high voltage equipment to make sure the tubes selected for you will provide outstanding tone and performance. The Preferred Series 7189 tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

Preferred Series 7189 | Did not last

by -

Had one 7189 crap out with very low hours. Unfortunately I didn’t put the amp through enough hours and the 6 months warranty is out.
I thought they did sound good.

Preferred Series 7189 | Bugera V5 Transformed

by -

I'm with Modwiz on this one. My Bugera V5 is a new amp now. Plugged the PS-7189 into a 12" cab it gets even better. Smooth when it needs to be and growling when harder on the attack.

Preferred Series 7189 | Good enough to buy replacements even when they break under warranty

by -

I purchased these tubes for my Orange Dark Terror low watt head, 7/15amp, replacing the stock JJ tubes. I found that the lead tones, bends, both clean or sustain have much better clarity, generally the amp sounds way better, chords sound crisper as well.
Down side, after 4 months of regular gig use they started blowing the HT 250ma fuse at a gig, (reason for the 4 star rate) sending the 7189s back under warranty.
Going back to the original JJ tubes sounds so off, I can't wait for the replacements, buying another matched pair, it's worth the $85 with shipping.

Preferred Series 7189 | Sound fantastic, but no internal connection between pin 6 and 9 like 7189A

by -

These PS-7189 tubes sound fantastic in my Magnatone M10A. I did have to move Grid 2 voltage supply to pin 9 (from pin 6) to make them work like the 7189A's. They offer wonderful tone and crunchy breakup as the volume knob goes past 1 o'clock. I would definitely buy these again, but be aware if you need an exact 7189A, you'll need to check your wiring to make sure grid 2 has a voltage supply for proper function

Preferred Series 7189 | Astonishing Upgrade for Monoprice Pure Tube Amp

by -

I'm brand new to the world of tube audio amplifiers although it's fast becoming an obsessive hobby. I have a $300 Monoprice Pure Tube Amp and installed these PS-7189 EL 84s as part of a Tube Store premium upgrade package. The sound improvement over the stock tubes is astonishing. There's great stereo separation, a much wider soundstage, crispness and detail in the instruments/vocals and punch in the bass/percussion. And talk about headroom - I've never needed or wanted to go past the 11 o'clock position on the volume knob (driving a pair of Klipsch RM-15s and a small subwoofer in a medium sized room with vaulted ceiling). I've run these tubes about 30 hours over 4 days and they seem to be getting better and better with each use. Highly recommend these tubes and the entire upgrade package.
