Preferred Series 7189 Premium EL84 Power Vacuum Tube (Matched)
Our Preferred Series 7189 vacuum tube is a versatile high quality option for EL84, 6BQ5, and 7189 power tube circuits because of its clean headroom, power, dynamics and harmonic content. Please see John Templeton's review of this tube. This 7189 tube is rated for higher power and plate voltage plus longer life making it a premium upgrade for amps with tough operating conditions. The solid construction and heavy glass also minimize microphonics. For the hifi crowd, this tube is the perfect choice for Scott, Eico and Fisher amps. Our Preferred Series 7189 starts life as a NOS (New Old Stock) Russian 6P14P-EV as translated from Cyrillic. It is a military build that meets or exceeds the 7189 specifications
6P14P = 6BQ5, EL84 and 7189 tubes.
E = Extended or long life (>5,000 hours)
V = Mechanically ruggedized for low microphonics and reliability
We have been selling this particular tube for years but have found the production from the 1980’s to sound and work the best. We sought out and purchased as much NOS as we can find from this time period. They are then burned in, tested and matched on our digital high voltage equipment to make sure the tubes selected for you will provide outstanding tone and performance. The Preferred Series 7189 tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

Preferred Series 7189 | My new favorite EL84!
by WillieB -
I am using a pair of these in a Cayin HA-1A MkII headphone amp. I have a lot of NOS EL84s for this amp including RFT, Polam, Tungsram, Brimar, Mullard and so on. I also have your typical offenders for current production tubes like EHX and Gold Lion. These are as good as the any of the best of these mentioned or not mentioned. I would say these and the Polam are my favorite, but knowing that these are easily sourced and at this price is remarkable. I am getting very good details from these. It's almost Triode power stage level detail out of a pentode! Also, probably the sturdiest looking/feeling EL84 that I've seen. Very impressed at this point and considering a backup 7189 set just in case these do become scarce or in case they change to a different tube for their Preferred EL84. I would recommend these to anyone. NOS tubes of this caliber at this price are few and far between these days.
Preferred Series 7189 | Fantastic in a Boogie TA-15 - made a good amp fantastic
by James -
These 7189 tubes took my Boogie Transatlantic TC-15 to a new level. They made the amp more airy and improved transients. Clean tones chime more, gain tones are richer. Transient response is significantly improved. All harshness is gone. Increased overtones. This set re-voiced the entire amp in all the right ways. Outstanding upgrade for a EL-84 amp
Preferred Series 7189 | These are the answer if you want big bottle tone in an EL84
by HK -
These 7189's are just the ticket if you find your amp lacking in bass and clean headroom. I play mostly metal and the common wisdom is that EL84's are less than ideal for such a use. Too much in the way of high-mids, flabby/loose/weak lows, etc.
After popping these into my Hughes and Kettner Grandmeister 40, the amp came alive. I could swear there are 6L6's in there from the punchy, authoritative lows I get while chugging. And they have a ton of clean headroom. No more breakup when trying to play clean passages with my drummer. No more harsh high-mids that give you a headache. The cherry on top is the very high build quality. These things are rugged.
Preferred Series 7189 | Not very long lasting
by Nico
They worked well for maybe 60 hours of home use and 2 gigs and then started to make strange noises, so I had to change them.

These tubes are some of the quietest 6n14-EB (7189 premium EL-84M) tubes I've ever heard. Reproductions of the Smooth bass (cellos, organ, contrabassoon & ect.), voice & classical guitar, and the cymbals of the drums make this tube a very fine tube to say the least. If you have been burnt by lousy duds...… you'll pay a wee bit more for these, but it is well worth it!! I listen to light jazz and the classics and am HAPPY!!
