The Preferred Series 7025 is a high quality 12AX7 tube type. This tube is a reproduction of the highly regarded and sought after Mullards from the 1960s.

This 7025 is a high quality and very rugged custom 12AX7 tube produced for us in China by the Shuguang factory. The plates are manufactured out of a premium metal imported from Germany and supported with extra thick mica spacers to insure against microphonics. They are burned in and tested at the factory and then again on our digital high voltage equipment to make sure the tubes selected for you will provide outstanding tone and performance.

From our review: "A great sounding 12AX7 tube type that reminds me a little more of the ECC83 that Ei made in the old days. That's a pretty nice compliment. I compared this tube against an old Ei and Telefunken smooth plate and there was very little difference. Lots of gain with a rather low noise floor. No microphonics issues at all. Very good considering the large plate size. Spot welding may be better for microphonics than crimped plates. I tried it in all the standard guitar amp duties and it was fine. Fabulous in Blackface Fender amps. We tried this 7025 in a 66 Vibrolux reverb 2x10 combo and the tones were all there. Light and shimmering or really aggressive, it's all good."

Warranty: The Preferred Series 7025 tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

Not so good on 1979 Fender ProReverb.

Too hot for a late 70s Fender ProReverb for my taste. Broke up crunchy around 5 on the channel, EQ was not as flexible. I ended up switching to JJ Golds. See review on those. I like my amp to stay clean on the channel all the way. The JJs did that the Preferred Series did not. Other may like that though.

Need my ears to adjust, but very good.

I just put a set of these into an old HR Deville 212, and my initial impression was that they sound brighter. But that's not exactly right. What they are is crisper and more detailed than the GT's that were in there before. I'm now hearing more of the guitar's character coming through.
As a test I played and listened to Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond with a strat. And I found that the clarity of the recording was matched by the way the amp sounded now (clean channel, no pedals).
I'd become so used to the old, "blurry" sound of the GTs that this needs some adjustment to my ears. But I'm starting to like it.

Clear and Punchy

Swapped out some old Telefunkens in my Ampeg amp with these and my sound got more clarity and punchier. I play wurlitzer through the amp and my chords have a nice definition to them. The Telefunkens were probably pretty old so it's hard to compare, but I am happy I swapped in these guys.

Honestly better than the NOS and JJ in a DRRI

I got these for my deluxe reverb reissue (DRRI) along with some nos and ehx 12AX7s. Initially I got the “preferred series“ for the less important locations in the amp but after back to back tests swapping them around with nos GE and RCA, ELectro harmonix, sovtek groove tubes and JJ’s there was a massive difference when the preferred series were in positions 1 or 2. Huge punchy sound that is just like a real ‘65 Deluxe Reverb I once played and have been chasing that tone. The JJ were a distant second and the others were no comparison. HIGHLY RECCOMEND OVER ANY OF THE OTHER BRANDS. Don’t let the low price overlook them as quality tubes.

First impressions

Just put this in v1 of an EVH 5153 50w 6l6. A very nice, clear sound through the channels. Seems to have nice gain to it too. But the one thing I noticed is the amp is much punchier. Ch.1 instantly punchy, ch.3 tightens up. Excellent, I'll order another next time.
