Excellent for Hot Rod Deluxe V2 socket
From advice that I've heard from other Fender Hot Rod Deluxe owners, I tried out this tube in the V2 socket on my Mk IV Hot Rod Deluxe. What a difference! It doesn't make any changes to the clean mode (which bypasses the lower gain triode of the 12DW7) but it reduces the gain of the fourth preamp stage in the drive/more drive modes, allowing much better volume control and allowing even the more drive mode to be turned down to a clean tone, all the way up to a full volume, heavy overdrive sound, but with a nice, rich sounding overdrive. The sound quality of the Electro Harmonix 12DW7 is great; it should be good for other amps that either specify a 12DW7 or could benefit from the 12AU7 characteristics of the second triode.
