The Chinese (Sino) Shuguang 12AX7-A vacuum tube is popular with Marshall owners for its gain and bite. It is currently re-branded by Penta, Ruby Tubes, Groove Tubes, and many others. Regardless of the name, they are all the same.

These tubes are often not labeled or Shuguang labels them "12AX7" only, and does not include the "A" suffix. However these are "12AX7A" tubes.

Nice and crunchy!

by

So, my Marshall JMP Superlead came with JJ's installed, and the tone was pretty lacking, to say the least. I don't understand why people seem to like these in their Marshall JMP's?! Maybe they are going for a mellower blues tone??? Anyway, I tried many other tubes in my amp and nothing was getting me the sound that I was looking for. Tung-Sol's, Sovteks, E.H.'s, you name it! I had even ordered some Ruby's (chinese) from another web store, and still was a bit disappointed in my tone. I was getting close, but I thought that it might actually be my amp. I was actually thinking about having some mods done to it to get it a little bit gainier. I was just curious, how some people with the same amp, get the crunch they are getting out of their JMP's with the volume on 5, than I do with it pretty much cranked? Then, on a whim (and some recommendations from the Rig Talk forum), bought a few of these Shuguang Chinese 12AX7A tubes from thetubestore, and put them in my amp... All I can say is WOW! THIS is the sound that I have been looking for. These willl give you that AC/DC crunch and then some! I HIGHLY recommend these tubes for anyone looking to get their Superleads to sound their best!

*BTW... I also threw one of these tubes in my VOX AD30VT practice amp, and it made a huge difference in the tone! I was ready to start shopping for a new practice amp, but that can definitely wait a little longer!

Plenty of gain and bite.

I popped this on V2 of my Fargen Mini Plex and there is a noticeable bite, and yet smoothness on the top end. There is no inherent sag nor ice-pickiness. Play an A or D chord on mid-to-high gain setting will hear note separation. Anyone who enjoys the the sound of an articulate pick attack will like this tube.
