It is the perfect EL34 power tube for vintage equipment and a sure way to improve the performance of modern equipment. According to the technical journal, Vacuum Tube Valley, the "...new EL34-EH tube comes very close to the sonics of a Mullard EL34..." They go on to say, "The Electro-Harmonix tube is balanced throughout the entire music spectrum. Bass goes deep and is tight, mids are sweet and well defined and highs are detailed and extended."

Electro-Harmonix EL34 | Surprisingly Great!

by

Great, classic EL34 tone. *Best* sounding new production tube I have used to date. I have two Marshall JCM 2000 100w Marshall amps. One is equipped with Winged Cs, the other is equipped with EH-EL34s. I honestly cannot tell any difference between the two. They sound best biased on the cool side. I hope Electro-Harmonix last as long as the Winged Cs. For the money, hands down the best value.

Electro-Harmonix EL34 | A good tube that sounds different from the legions of wannabe Mullard clones.

The Electro-Harmonix El34 plates look awfully similar to the RFT EL34. In my Laney LA50TH these EH-EL34 tubes surprisingly have better tonal complexity, and harmonic detail than the RFT EL34 tubes. They have bit of a Telefunken thing going on with their tonality.
They have almost 50% of the tonal complexity, mid-range clarity, and harmonic detail of the winged plate Telefunken EL34. Do note even a Mullard EL34 xf2 rates somewhere around 70% in terms of those parameters against the winged plate Telefunken EL34
They have clean and detailed highs like the RFT EL34, and old Mullard EL34 xf1, however I'll have to admit that their highs aren't anywhere as clean and detailed as the Telefunken EL34. One thing I tend to dislike about Mullard EL34 xf2, and their clones is that they smear and distort the high end. It's good to have a new EL34 tube doesn't chase after the usual Mullard EL34 xf2 tone. If you like German EL34 of the past over British ones you'll like these tubes.

Electro-Harmonix EL34 | I couldn't wait to replace them... Meh

2.5 stars and I'm being generous.
Bright, harsh, no power and With No soul

It's so subjective.
I like a British sound. Not bright or boomy. Less JBL, more B&W.

My amps are Brits from Tube Technology
Genesis MK3"s very high quality but they require a driver tube that can really put out.

Speakers are B&W 802"s not highly efficient at 90db /watt
Yet they are detailed and provide highly sophisticated sounds.

Heavy gauge silver wire

These EH-EL34 tubes were absolutely incapable of powering my amps
They hurt my ears.
Muddy, no depth of Soundstage

I Replaced them with =C= reissue Svetlana EL34's
What a difference. Power without harshness.

On another note, the physical characteristics of these tubes is diminutive and narrower in circumference.

This is a excellent tube. Great sounding and long lived tube. Have a pair of these for my Marshall 73 1987 head too. EHX got the best tube for the money. Thumbs up..

Great!

Just dropped these into my Mesa Royal Atlantic and they sound terrific! The mids are less grainy than the stock Mesa's, the lows thump more and the highs are certainly extended. I backed my treble off 2 points and the tone is thicker and more detailed than it was prior. I love it when you get a win all around!
