Electro-Harmonix 6L6GC | Good all rounder

by -

These are my new go too 6L6 since tad quit making my first pick. I haven't quite made a full commitment yet but these do sound good and, other than one tube with an intermittent short issue, so far there ok. The JJ is unusable due to the internal rattle issue so I'm trying these EH-6L6GC and i do like them they are good clean or in higher gain amps. Ill stick with these for now they seem to be built fairly well so hopefully its consistent on quality. Worth trying a set out, I'd recommend them.

Electro-Harmonix 6L6GC | A must for MESA/Boogie Mark Series

by

I want a nice dynamic pair of 6L6 for my Mesa Mark 3 . More on the headroom side than compression. Perfect !
The EH-6L6GC are an awesome match for the Boogie Mark series. Really responsive , punchy , without been overkill in the low-end, sparkling without piercing high-end.
I love them !
Thank you The Tube Store for that perfect match pair.

Boom!!!

So I put four balanced 12ax7’s two 6ca7’s and two 6l6gc all from EH in my Bugera 333xl infinium and HOLY CRAP!!! I play mainly hard rock/metal and I’ve never had more crunch and amazing cleans it’s not even the same amp anymore I was able to completely ditch my ts9 boost pedal it doesn’t even come close to needing it. Thank you EH for such awesome tubes.

Another good Russian tube from New Sensor.

by

Another favorite from New Sensor. I liked the Soviet stepped base tubes with the OTK stamps anyway, and I'd say this is more based on that than an RCA, but they do sound quite nice. Highs are not nearly as airy and weak as the old coke bottle Shu Guang Sino tubes, mids are nice warm & not too bright. The highs can be voiced to almost chime, but you won't quite get that super bright Roy Buchanan sound. I am running these in my big 105 watt Quad Reverb right now, and it will blow the legs of your trousers around. It has a nice tight bass thump, but it is not overly tight, nor is it loose and sloppy. Test readings are generally in spec with the spec's listed in the RCA books, when tested on both a modified valve tester utilizing fully regulated voltages, while the tubes amplify a 5KHz sine wave, under load. Noise is good. Further testing utilizing a transformer regulated PSU and an Arduino based tester that plots transfer curves shows results close to any of the NOS tubes. Noise is overall good, with low microphonics. Lifespan is short compared to NOS, but this is just typical. I have always liked the Soviet stepped base 6L6GC copy. This one is no exception.
