Just what the Doctor ordered

I got my Blackstar HT-5R because I teach and wanted an amp that could cover all musical styles. Like many others I discovered that the gain channel did not do well at low to medium gain settings and thought that a tube upgrade might help. After installing this tube set I checked out the clean channel and it was warm and clear with great tone and articulation. Next I turned on the gain channel, with a don't get your hopes up frame of mind, and wow. It was even warmer with more harmonic goodness. It sounded like a completely different amp. From a clean boosted sound all the way to serious Metal and everything in between the gain channel sounded great. Even at full gain the sound didn't get mushy and pinch harmonics just leaped out of the amp. These tubes may be expensive, but for the price of a stompbox they were well worth it. I've been playing guitar since 1962 and see it all, but i'm still shaking my head at the difference this re-tube made. If you have an HT-5R combo you should upgrade your speaker as well, but this is the place to start.
