Our Preferred Series 7189 vacuum tube is a versatile high quality option for EL84, 6BQ5, and 7189 power tube circuits because of its clean headroom, power, dynamics and harmonic content. Please see John Templeton's review of this tube. This 7189 tube is rated for higher power and plate voltage plus longer life making it a premium upgrade for amps with tough operating conditions. The solid construction and heavy glass also minimize microphonics. For the hifi crowd, this tube is the perfect choice for Scott, Eico and Fisher amps. Our Preferred Series 7189 starts life as a NOS (New Old Stock) Russian 6P14P-EV as translated from Cyrillic. It is a military build that meets or exceeds the 7189 specifications

6P14P = 6BQ5, EL84 and 7189 tubes.
E = Extended or long life (>5,000 hours)
V = Mechanically ruggedized for low microphonics and reliability

We have been selling this particular tube for years but have found the production from the 1980’s to sound and work the best. We sought out and purchased as much NOS as we can find from this time period. They are then burned in, tested and matched on our digital high voltage equipment to make sure the tubes selected for you will provide outstanding tone and performance. The Preferred Series 7189 tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

I am amazed by these tubes!! I put these in a Peavey Micro Head, these tubes sound fantastic. In this amp it added a lot of bass it has been lacking, clear mids and plenty of chime.

These tubes are incredible in my Friedman PT20

These tubes completely change the amp characteristics for the better. Notes went from saturated and fuzzy to really articulate and punchy with beautiful harmonic overtones. Also the amp can be turned up to higher volumes and still get good note articulation - great for playing with loud bands. Here's a video I made with these tubes in my Friedman PT20 amp: https://youtu.be/3J6OiFuEZqs

The perfect vintage hi-fi tube!

I am so glad you guys offer this tube! I hope thetubestore.com continues to offer these in the future, because I will definitely keep coming back for them! I'll be sad when the NOS runs out. Those cold-war soviets sure knew how to build tubes.

These definitely meet or exceed the rating for a 7189. I've actually pushed them past their ratings a few times and run them like a 7189A and they held up just fine with no immediate bad effects. I don't recommend doing that for long as it is exceeding their rating, but they are definitely tough 7189's.

I run a matched quad of these in a 1967 Sansui 500A stereo receiver with a class AB push-pull output that I converted from 7189A. My voltages are 378v on the plate, 320v on the screen, and -15v grid bias. They have run many hours and 4 years like that and work wonderfully.

What really strikes me about these tubes is their clarity. The sound is pure, crisp, and clean, yet rich and smooth. There is not a hint of noise or microphonics. My friends always comment on how great my receiver sounds.

The perfect tube for vintage hi-fi home stereo equipment where low distortion is paramount.

I just hope they start producing these tubes again before the NOS runs out.

OH MY GOD!!!

Wow, just installed them in my Jackson Ampworks Britain 30, and man what a difference. The amp originally came with Tung-Sol's and sounded great, but these made it seem like another amp. Gave it an overall fullness, took away some of the harshness, lots more headroom. Well worth the few extra bucks and then some. You will not regret it.

These sound great

I like the JJ EL84. Used them for years. That said..... The Preferred Series blow them away. Not even close. Smooth not gritty, deep rich blah blah blah. These rock
