The Preferred Series 7025 is a high quality 12AX7 tube type. This tube is a reproduction of the highly regarded and sought after Mullards from the 1960s.

This 7025 is a high quality and very rugged custom 12AX7 tube produced for us in China by the Shuguang factory. The plates are manufactured out of a premium metal imported from Germany and supported with extra thick mica spacers to insure against microphonics. They are burned in and tested at the factory and then again on our digital high voltage equipment to make sure the tubes selected for you will provide outstanding tone and performance.

From our review: "A great sounding 12AX7 tube type that reminds me a little more of the ECC83 that Ei made in the old days. That's a pretty nice compliment. I compared this tube against an old Ei and Telefunken smooth plate and there was very little difference. Lots of gain with a rather low noise floor. No microphonics issues at all. Very good considering the large plate size. Spot welding may be better for microphonics than crimped plates. I tried it in all the standard guitar amp duties and it was fine. Fabulous in Blackface Fender amps. We tried this 7025 in a 66 Vibrolux reverb 2x10 combo and the tones were all there. Light and shimmering or really aggressive, it's all good."

Warranty: The Preferred Series 7025 tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

BLUES JR AND HOT ROD DELUXE

by

This is the best tube I have ever heard/felt in a BJR (2012 Tweed NOS Cream Board, billm mods, Jensen C12N) and HRD (Jensen C12K). The Tube Store is providing an 'honestly' superb 12AX7 tube in all respects. I have been dealing with the wonderful folks ("Jon") at The Tube Store for a little more than 10 years when a 'pair' of Winged C's cost 60 bucks! "Preferred Series" labeling does not resemble Groove and Ruby Tubes marketing gimmicks in which cheaper tubes are simply relabeled and distributed at considerably higher costs. Perhaps we (Americans) could learn a thing or two regarding honesty from our Canadian brothers and eventually turn-around our miserable economy?

Preferred Series Tubes

Upgraded the tubes in my JoLida FX 10 with thetubestore's Preferred Series 7189/EL84 and Preferred Series 7025/12AX7 tubes. I am impressed with the improvements to the sound of the amplifier. The imaging and soundstage have improved, there is better bass response and the amp has better control of the music. These tubes are an excellent upgrade!

A transparent and clinical tube

by

From the description and reviews I was expecting more, but in V1 (usually a NOS Sovtek 12ax7WB) and V3 of a Peavey Classic 30 (usually an ARS branded Tesla/JJ) this tube lacked the character and "tubie-ness" that I like. Thinking this might be just a result in the C30, I tried it in my new VHT Special 6 Ultra, and in both its valve sockets I heard a significant loss of character. In both amps there was also a slight loss of gain. My feeling is that this tube is best for applications where the user/listener wants transparency and reliability/stability. Maybe a long burn in period will help? I will keep this PS tube to try in mic preamps, or as a backup for my amps, but for my taste - which is the addition of tube color and character - sadly I'm not enamored with this tube. It's not a bad tube, but I put the previous valves back and I'm happy again.

Best 12AX7 I've tried yet

by

Having tested these tubes in a wide range of different amps (half a dozen Marshalls, Mesa/Boogie Quad Preamp, Orange Tiny Terror, vintage and modern Traynor Amps and a Matamp Mini Rock) I can conclusively say that these tubes are my "preferred" 12AX7.

Why? Let me count the ways. While they do not overemphasize any particular frequency range, there is a fullness across the entire spectrum of sound - all without sounding pushed or imposing itself on the amp's natural character. Lower frequencies seem to benefit as my favourite Telecaster will attest to.

Low gain settings are present and warm. Breakup on this tube is fantastic - tremendous crunch and not a hint being harsh or grainy. This is a tube that can handle high and extreme gain settings quite nicely.

By general comparison, JJ's to sound a bit thinner and "glassy". Tung Sol's have a slight grainy characteristic that "blurs" further up the frequency range as it goes. Both of these others can be used to taste, in my opinion, but overall the Preferred Series stand head and shoulders above them for just a few dollars more.

For what it's worth, I have also played with the reissue Gold Lions and NOS Phillips. While I don't consider myself as familiar with these tubes, I'd still recommend the Preferred Series ahead them.

While I'm thankful to live a short distance from The Tube Store, I should be clear that I have no personal or professional ties to them. With that said, they have been great to deal with and I would not hesitate to recommend doing business with them.

Tonefunken

by

I got one of these for my Fender Super Champ X2 with a matched set of Tung-Sol 6V6GT's. I got this guy cause it's like a Telefunken harmonically. After a good break in I gotta say I'm a 100% satisfied. Rich harmonics with a controlled top end, chime for days, and hifi tonal characteristics. Probably the best 12ax7 on the market for a head period.
