This Preferred Series 6L6GC vacuum tube is a recent addition to our premium line of high quality tubes, where we find the best of current production and sourced to our specifications.

This 6L6 tube is a new version of the popular TAD 6L6GC-STR you might already know. Once exclusive only to TAD (Tube Amp Doctor) we contracted the Shuguang factory in China to produce a massive lot of these tubes to our specs. We think this is a better tube and at a better price.

The Preferred Series 6L6GC construction features:

- A black plate like the premium NOS RCA 6L6GC tubes from the 1960's
- Double halo-style getters
- Gold grid wires
- The filament used is low-noise
- The bottle is made with a heavy gauge glass
- And finally the blue color base is a nice touch too!

This 6L6 tube is versatile and will sound great in many amplifiers, for many styles of music. Anything from blues to jazz to metal. It is well balanced from top to bottom. The highs are smooth, clear and clean. The low end well detailed and articulate even when pushed hard. We think this is the best alternative to the famous Philips/Sylvania STR-387 6L6GC.

From our review: "This tube has a sound that I would characterize as smooth and warm. The high end is articulate but not sharp or brittle. Bass response is bigger than most but not boomy, so you still get good note definition. The midrange is very nice and thick without any tendency to sound nasal."

The Preferred Series 6L6GC tubes carry a 6 month extended warranty.

Excellent tubes - Better than Svetlana Winged C?

by -

I just picked up a Bruno Cow Tipper 45 (killer amp) and had a corresponding tube GAS attack that fortunately included buying a set of these tubes based on the reviews.
The amp came with a set of barely used Svetlana Winged Cs and I picked up a set of A-NOS GE 6L6GCs as well. The GEs were the winner for clarity and definition but the Preferred had more clarity than the Winged Cs and less of that thick heaviness the Winged Cs have. This was a welcome surprise and I'd be more than happy to use the Preferred for live and recording. GEs are getting pricey and as snobby as I am, the Preferred win out for the value.

Clear balanced cleans, nice with overdrive pedal.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe owners... try these tubes. Bias around 68 mA. Great tone!

I don't need to buy ANOS anymore

by -

I've been using ANOS 6L6s in my amps for over a decade now, and I was getting tired of having to replace my power tubes every 6-12 months, even if I didn't use the amp in question all that much. I also play professionally, reliability is a huge concern and no matter how I try I just don't like modeling gear. So I decided to give these a try in my Dr. Z EZG-50, which is my primary gigging amp. These are excellent tubes. They replaced a pair of old RCAs and the amp sounds fuller overall. I had expected that I would have to live with a little less liveliness, maybe a funny eq notch in the upper mids or excessively glassy highs as this has been my experience with modern tubes, but none of that came to pass, they sound great. I have also had Philips STRs and old GEs in this amp and when the time comes to retube the Preferred Series is going to be my first choice, the only caveat being that they need to last awhile. But this tube looks and feels well made, I expect these will hold up.

Current Production that performs like NOS!

When the time came to purchase new tubes for new amplifier builds, I felt it was time for a change. I purchased many new production tubes and for the most part they seemed fine. Some are a little bright some are a little dark and generally you could mix and match to come up with a sound balance. My first real interaction with the preferred series of tubes was with the preamp tubes. See my preamp review about my Ibanez TK 909 over drive pedal. It completely transformed it. That was my start. I have pretty much tried out the full line of Perferred Series tubes. I find them to be like NOS tubes, basically they deliver. I just finished blackfacing a 1976 Fender Twin Reverb. I decided to try their 6L6 series. Basically i’m blown away. I’m more than happy with the sound. Most impressive, is they have a wider range then the TAD’s I was using. Another thing that is important to me is their customer service, It first rate.

Very nice clean tone

I have limited experience with tube brands, but this is a very nice tube. I've been replacing stock tubes with JJs for years, and I splurged on these for my Blackstar Artist 15. The clean channel is a little clearer and more organic, and it seems to have a little less bass for an even EQ. It's not a dramatic difference, but it's definitely there. Would buy these again.
