Northern Electric had a rich history of producing high quality audio products and vacuum tubes in Canada. We are now re-introducing this classic brand and bringing to you the highest quality tubes possible.

The Northern Electric 12AX7 is made with the highest quality materials. Everything is designed to give you unsurpassed audio quality. This tube has very large smooth plates. This design is much like a Telefunken 12AX7 / ECC83 smooth plate but a bit shorter. This design provides plenty of gain while maintaining an extremely low noise floor. It has been torture tested in a JTM 45, a Deluxe Reverb, anOrange 50 watt combo, and Bandmaster Reverb, with no failures or noise problems after hundreds of hours in clubs and studios. It doesn’t matter if you use an American or British design, this tube works.

In our listening tests it was easy to hear that the tube did not change the voice of the amplifier as some preamp tubes do. The Northern Electric enhances the sound across the entire spectrum. Our testers have reported no noticeable spikes or weakness in the lows, mids, or high end. The highs are very smooth with a balanced midrange response and warm, full bottom end.

Thank you tubestore for putting this outstanding tube on the market! Resolution and space of a TungSol plus naturalness, warmth and "high fidelity" of a TAD Mullard remake - bravo! And it's not even broken in!!!

This is my tube of choice for 12AX7.
Started out with installing them in a new
Orange TH30 that was too harsh.
A 12AX7 for the clean channel and one for stage 1 and 2 of the dirty channel then a Gold Lion 12AT7 for stage 3 and 4 of the dirty channel.

Works great in my Orange TH30,
Fender Bandmaster,
Fender ecVibroChamp,
Fender Greta.
Not so good in my Orange MicroTerror
I plan on using it in my Fender SuperReverb
I plan on trying it in my Orange OR 50 when I get
the right speakers for it.

The big question for this tube being relatively unknown is, is it worth the money? The possibly too short answer is... Yes. Let me explain. The attributes that make it worth the money or possibly even a bargain is the sound it creates when installed (at least one). It's like the sound has been processed by a Grammy award winning studio engineer. Articulate, clear, responsive, beautifully recreates your tone with a slight warmth from a very neutral base that would make the swiss proud. However, because of this I wouldn't load a guitar amp full of these because it lacks... Character. Used in HiFi amps I'm sure it would rule all others but guitar amps much like the speakers in them, the distinct tone is created from imperfection. So unless you like the absolute recreation of your pickups and let the power tubes and speakers be the colour, I'd suggest mixing this with another tube to add flavor to your tone. I'd describe this piece of glass as a sound enhancer. To sum up Best for microphones and HiFi, but in guitar amps you'd best mix with one other or more. Makes an excellent phase inverter.

I ordered one of these to go into V1 and a Preferred Series 7025 to go into V2 on a recent amp that I built. (Only 2 preamp tubes in the design although it uses a long tail inverter). The first Northern Electric tube failed of which the guys at tubestore promptly sent me a replacement. I have to say that I replaced the Northern Electric temporarily with a vintage EI which sounded good but I have to admit that this Northern Electric 12AX7 sounds absolutely awesome! I would recommend this combination as it really does sound good and if you have 3 preamp tubes a NE in V1 and 2 7025's (V2-V3) would have you jumpin' up and down. But if course if you can afford all NE's go for it!
