Northern Electric had a rich history of producing high quality audio products and vacuum tubes in Canada. We are now re-introducing this classic brand and bringing to you the highest quality tubes possible.

The Northern Electric 12AX7 is made with the highest quality materials. Everything is designed to give you unsurpassed audio quality. This tube has very large smooth plates. This design is much like a Telefunken 12AX7 / ECC83 smooth plate but a bit shorter. This design provides plenty of gain while maintaining an extremely low noise floor. It has been torture tested in a JTM 45, a Deluxe Reverb, anOrange 50 watt combo, and Bandmaster Reverb, with no failures or noise problems after hundreds of hours in clubs and studios. It doesn’t matter if you use an American or British design, this tube works.

In our listening tests it was easy to hear that the tube did not change the voice of the amplifier as some preamp tubes do. The Northern Electric enhances the sound across the entire spectrum. Our testers have reported no noticeable spikes or weakness in the lows, mids, or high end. The highs are very smooth with a balanced midrange response and warm, full bottom end.

My Line 6 DT 25 loves this

This in v1 as an phase inverter in combination with 2 Preferred Series 7189 in v2 and v3, makes the DT 25 sing like never before. Overtones and harmonic feedback is excellent.

Perfect tube for us bassists.

It has been an ongoing battle for us Mesa Walkabout owners to find a combination of tubes that work really well in the WA head. I've tried almost every combination possible and the Northern Elecrtic 12ax7 in V1 and V2 beats them all hands down. Stays clean longer with an ample amount of gain. Pricey yes. But well worth the money in my opinion. The tone is even from the lowest note to the highest note.

Sound Check on Northern Electric 12AX7

by

Tested this in V1 of my Effectrode Tube Drive with some delay and chorus vs a vintage smooth plate Telefunken 12AX7 and a JJ 12AX7. The Northern Electric has a very warm, smooth mid with nice highs that are not harsh. I love old Telefunkens but this tube actually sounds better because of how it sounds in the mids, has the warmth of an old Mullard and still has the nice sounding highs that I like in the Telefunkens. The JJ has nice crisp highs but sounds "boomy" and unfocused. Overall this is a very nice tube with a unique voice that I think a lot of guitar players are going to like if they can afford them, the price is pretty steep.

Best I ever heard!

After reading the write up on these I had to give them a try for my Hiwatt Custom 50. I have be search for a new tube that can match to tone of the Telefunken and Amperex Bugle boys that I normally use so I don't have to continually search for them to add to my stock so I will never run out. They are getting harder and harder to find and the prices are through the roof. I started by replacing one by one V1, V2, V3 and do critical listening in each position. Considering I was replacing Telefunken models and Bugle Boys they had a lot to live up to. In every instance they either equaled or surpassed what they replaced. Especially in V3. These make exceptional Phase Inverters. The tone is rich and throaty with out being boomy and the top end was full of sparkle and nuance without becoming shrill or brittle. I'm sold, NO MORE NOS for me. These are definitely with the cost of admission.

The Northern Electric 12AX7 tubes work great in my ARC SP16 phono stage; there is a noticeable difference with a wider and better positioned sound-stage for all instruments when compared to the OEM tubes.
