The Mullard name and trademark have been acquired by the New Sensor Corporation. This new production Mullard EL34 vacuum tube is manufactured at their Xpo-Pul factory (also known as Reflektor) in Saratov, Russia. New Sensor is an American corporation and since taking ownership of this factory has been steadily improving the quality of current production tubes.

Compared to the New Sensor Corp. Svetlana which has a rather strident midrange, the new Mullard EL34 has been considerably smoothed. The overall sound is more balanced and very warm. This is great news for people with something like a Marshall since they are inherently midrangey. The low mids are nicely balanced to prevent any boomy tone.

If you are curious about how these fare in a hifi stereo amplifier be sure to read the Wall of Sound EL34 tube comparison for details.

This new production EL34 tube is New Sensor's reissue of the famous Mullard EL34.

Mullard EL34 sound and burn-in

by -

I recently needed to replace the EL34 output tubes for my mono-blocs, (six per channel). The sound of the amps is fantastic, with a great sense of realism. At first I tried to buy just two used tubes off CAM, but I was unsuccessful. So I went ahead and bought twelve matched EL34s from The Tube Store. For the first several hours of listening, the sound was ok, but the sound stage was smaller and congested. At 20 hours the mid's sounded like honey poured all over them, (not in a good way). Finally at 30 hours the sound opened up. The emotion of the musicians, and the timbre and spacing of the instruments came back. Now, at 50 hours my records sound better than ever. Not sure if the sound will continue to open up, but I suspect it will. I can highly recommend the Russian Mullard EL34s. Thanks also to the staff at The Tube Store. Super knowledgeable and informative!

Mud Machine

Mud Machine. I guess if you play rock and blues, this tube is ok, but I play clean blues/jazz/R&B, and this tube is absolutely terrible for that. Low mids are muddy as hell.

Really nice!

I tried out a set of these I my Marshall 1959slp and loved them. I compared them against a set of kt77 Genalex gold lions and was quite surprised. They are not better than the gold lions by any stretch, just different. Also the kt77 tone is different in a few ways. All in all, these are top notch el34s that yield and beautiful, creamy overdrive and a great punchy bottom end. For what these cost, I will always keep a matched quad around. If you like that slightly compressed Marshall tone then buying a set of these is the next thing on your to do list!

Musical and smooth; an enemy of stridency

This tube is an antidote to brightness, edginess and leanness. It contributes to making my listening experience relaxing, enjoyable and wonderfully realistic.

Smoking! In the good way

I just received and installed my matched pair of Mullard EL34"s in my 80's Marshal Artist 3203 head and they sound awesome. Also replaced the 12AX7 tube. The clean channel can be driven into mild breakup and the OD channel is smokin'. Bass is tight and not muddy at all. Did the C13 mod and the highs are not razor sharp anymore. I would recommend these tubes if you like the classic Marshall crunch/ overdriven sound. Shipping was fast!
