SKU: NOS-5693
USD $‎73.95
Each
Replaces 5693, 6SJ7, and 6SJ7GT tube types. The RCA "Special Red" tubes (5690, 5691, 5692, 5693) were designed for 10,000 hours of use. RCA claimed the 5693 tube could withstand shocks of 100 G's for extended periods of time!

These should be considered a top pick for old amps like Gibson, Danelectro, and any other vintage amp requiring a 6SJ7 tube.  Also audiophiles with the Musical Paradise MP-301 can also upgrade their amps from the Chinese 6SJ7 input tube to the 5693.

Assorted brands in stock but all red tubes were produced by RCA regardless of branding.

Additional Information and Downloads

What does "NOS" mean, anyway?:

Commonly known as "NOS," the term New Old Stock simply refers to tubes that were made years ago but have never been used. Much like antiques, "NOS" tubes are currently not being manufactured and this means their supply is dwindling while the price continues to rise.

For most NOS tubes we have a variety of brands available. Typically these are the common brands such as RCA, Sylvania, GE, Raytheon, etc. However, there are instances where lesser known brands are in stock. If you have a particular brand you prefer you can simply request it in the Order Comment box when you place your order.

Tone guru

by

This is one bad boy tube! Highly recommended! I built an SE 6V6 for harp kind of based on the 47 Champ leaning towards a 5F2 without a tone control, and I won't divulge what rectifier, speaker or both transformers used and component value changes I've made. I have a retired engineer (hard to track down so that miser's 250,000 tubes stay stuck in storage) acquaintance and he gave me 2 NIB GE Black 6SJ7s and i put one in to see if it sounded better than my old and strong Raytheon Metal band, it did. Fast forward a few years--6 months ago--I told my buddy to nab one of these Red 5693's to upgrade the pentode for his cool Noble amp. Interestingly it didn't sound as good as the old glass sj7 in that Noble, and that glass didn't sound as good as the GEs in my SE, however, when i stuck the Red in my SE Growler...Sweet Mother Of Jesus! Bingo! For nasty amplified harp I'm a less is more guy in an amps circuitry and the tailoring of component values to get your amps tone dialed in is the road I go and that Red 5693 was the final nail in this amp. I was just asked to build something like my Growler but with about 20 watts.....boy do i wanna go SE with these Red 5693s in that build.
