From our review: The tube has a nice balanced sound that is not as bottom heavy as say the TAD and not as bright as the SED. The midrange response is very nice. No honk and no really pronounced EQ shelving as you manipulate the tone controls of the amp. Very smooth and balanced frequency response that sounds great driving Celestion speakers which tend to be a bit honky in the mids and extreme in the Bass and Treble. Clean sounds are pretty chimey and overdrive is thick with lots of sustain...more

My Favorite Current Production 6L6

by

These may be my favorite of the 6L6's I've tried. Admittedly, I haven't had "holy grail" NOS tubes or genuine Winged C's in any of my amps. However, I put these in one channel, and JJ 6L6GC's (separately reviewed) in the other, since both channels work independently. They give me 2 very nice, but slightly different, 6L6 tones. These are incredibly very well balanced, with rather strong lower mids for a 6L6. They sound very full and strong in the lower frequencies, but not out of control. They have good clarity, with very nice highs that seem a tiny bit softer than the JJ'S. Fantastic for all clean tones, and bridge humbuckers or single coils with gain sound full yet well defined. Check out my review for the JJ'S used in the same amp. The JJ is more crisp and bright, the Svetlanas a bit thicker with more low mids, both excellent. I really hope these remain readily available, since they may be the best affordable alternative to Winged C's.

A change is good, refreshing.

I purchased these tubes and had them in storage, for some time, I recently installed them in a hot rod deluxe, and I have found with very nice tone, I had the tad 6l6wgbs in I enjoyed them too, but was ready for a change, these filled the bill.

Preliminary Review

by

I received these tubes today, so this is not a long-term review. Replaced two JJs (and I also put a 5751 in V1) in my Rivera Chubster. It made a difference in tone. The amp sounds much smoother, with less mid-range gain or barking. I prefer a Fender Blackface tone in the clean channel, and this tube change was a significant improvement.
Interesting though because I have been told that tube rolling doesn't do much for a significant change in tone, and I have been told to use the tube types that came with the amp because the amp was designed around those tubes. Not true here. In this respect, the Rivera seems very accommodating, even though Rivera themselves told me to stick with stock type tubes. Their amp adjusted well. However, I doubt this is true for all amps. For example, I have other amps where I tried tube rolling, and nothing was accomplished - did absolutely nothing to change tone. I guess some amps just have their characteristic tone, and there is nothing I can do about it.
Thanks Tube Store for the tube reviews, that helps!!!

The Svetlana 6l6GC's I ordered arrived quickly and have increased the output (and tonal quality) in my old DeArmond amp!

Rock and Blues Tone!!!

by

Just had a set of these finally go bad after 4 years of every weekend use in my JCM 900 Marshall. Also just reordered them. My amp tech recommended these for my style of playing, and he couldn't have been more right. I use Tung-sols in the preamp, best overall tone I've ever had. Nice, glassy overdrive, with plenty of punch. The ultimate Les Paul through a Marshall tone.
