BitMo BRAT Mod Kit for Epiphone Valve Junior Amp
Reviews Qty: (0)
Usually ships within 24 hours.
This kit for your Epiphone Valve Junior amp head or combo contains all of the parts and instructions necessary to add a Tone Control with a pull-switch that adds gain and a British Top Boost overdrive voicing.
This kit is great bang for your buck (and time)! It takes about half as much time to install as Trio. If you already installed the BitMo Spanky kit, this is a great add-on. Comes with a magnetic logo plate and decals.
The Tone Control is a low-loss design used in several classic amps from Fender, Vox and Gibson and on several current boutique amps. While the control itself is fairly standard, its placement in the Epiphone Valve Junior circuit is a BitMo innovative.
When the knob is pulled, the preamp is re-voiced to British Top Boost with more gain for sweet overdrive.
The control gives a range of tones that respond to your touch and the setting of the volume control on the amp and on the guitar. These mods also work great with pedals in front.
Note: The BitMo Brat works with or without the BitMo Spanky mods. It is not compatible with the BitMo Tone, Voicing/Gain Switch, Duo, or BitMo TRIO mods. It replaces most of the functionality of these kits.
When used on its own, with the switch in normal mode, the amp sounds similar to the stock Epiphone Valve Junior circuit but with some of the low-mid mud removed; and of course you get the extra flexibility of the Tone Control, going from mellow to sparkly. If you combine the Brat control with the Spanky mods, the Epiphone Valve Junior becomes very Vox-like.
These mods are designed for and tested with the Epiphone Valve Junior Head and Combo version 2 and 3 but should also work for the original version of the combo. The instructions and support are for V2 and V3 only. (We understand that V2 Combos have faceplates with BOTH the stripes and labels printed *ABOVE* the input jack and volume control.)
Recommend tube upgrades:
Standard: One JJ 12AX7 and one JJ EL84
Creamy Overdrive Distortion: One Tungsol 12AX7 and one low bias JJ EL84
Note: BitMo kits do not include tubes.
There can be some dangerous voltages in tubes amps so be careful! Always unplug the amp while working on it. You should also use goggles or glasses while soldering. I disavow any responsibility for damage, injury or lost hours. The instructions are simple enough for a novice. You experts should be able to figure it out.
Skills needed - must be able to solder and drill a hole in the metal chassis.
Tools you will need - screwdriver, tiny eyeglass screwdriver, a low-wattage soldering iron, rosin core solder, wire stripper, needle nose pliers, drill and bits, black tape.
