The KT88 was invented by Marconi-Osram Valve Co. and became quick competition for the USA made 6550 tube. Companies including Leak, McIntosh, Dynaco, and Harmon-Kardon all offered high-end amps that would take advantage of the KT88 tube's abilities. Marshall also got into the action a few years later when they released the 200 watt Marshall Major amplifiers.

Today, many high-end audio tube amp manufacturers still rely on the KT88 tube or one of its variants (KT90 and KT120) for their current production tube amplifiers. Companies such as Cary Audio, McIntosh, and Jolida offer amps with KT88 tubes. The current amplifiers from Audio Research and Conrad Johnson are designed to use the recently released Tung-Sol KT120. Rogue Audio and Quicksilver Audio offers amplifiers that can use any version of the KT88, KT90, or KT120. And this just scratches the surface.

We have a large selection of KT88, KT90, KT120, and KT150 vacuum tubes in stock with tube reviews submitted by our customers.
